COVID-19 Updates

April 29, 2020 Announcement

Dear Parents and Campers,

Over the last couple of months, the staff at Lake Louise and the camp Deans and Volunteer staff have been working and planning for our summer camp 2020 programs.   Throughout this time the safety of our campers, staff, and participants has always been our top priority.
We have been working closely with the American Camp Association, CDC, local Health Departments and other trusted advisors in the camping industry in general, to ensure that we have guidelines in place for a safe and successful summer.

We know how much you care about Lake Louise Summer Camp.  Our planning for this summer began right after the conclusion of summer camp 2019.  We always look forward to the next summer when we can gather once again along the shores of Lake Louise and share in the camp adventures, the fun and Christian fellowship.

After careful review of all available information relating to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, we along with the Board of Trustees have unanimously decided to cancel our 2020 summer residential camp season.  This emotional decision was not reached easily.  The unfamiliar and the unknowns surrounding this coronavirus and how it would affect the health and safety needs of our camp community was essential within our discussions in making this difficult decision.

We want to thank all the families and campers that have registered for Summer Camp 2020.  For those of you who have made payments to cover your camp fees, here are two options that we are offering to you.

  1. Receive a full refund of all fees paid for Summer Camp 2020. We ask that you please be patient as we work to get these refund checks out to each of you.
  2. You can donate all or a portion of the camp fees already paid to Lake Louise Summer Camp. We would then send you a gift receipt that can be used for tax purposes as Lake Louise is 501(c)3 non-profit organization.  If you would like to make this donation, please send an email to Neil Haney at nhaney@lakelouisecommunity.org or by calling our office at 231.549.2728.

Also, for everyone that has registered for 2020 summer camp as of this email, they will be offered to register for summer camp 2021 at the 2020 rates.

If your family is looking for a location to get away this summer, please consider renting one of our lodging options for your vacation.  Our options include:

  1. Summer Cabin – sleeps 12 (6 bunkbeds) with two bathrooms ~ $70.00/night
  2. Seasonal Rental Cabins – sleeps 6 (3 bunkbeds), kitchenette and full bathroom – $85.00/night
  3. Sheppard Cottage – sleeps 4 (queen bed and pull out couch), full kitchen, laundry and full bathroom (all linens included) – $99.00/night
  4. Halsted & McKay Lodges ideal for multi-family gatherings with a capacity of 20 people – $150.00/night

Thank you for entrusting us with your family now and in the past.  Lake Louise Summer Camp will be around for many years to come and we look forward to being a part of your family’s summer again next year and in the future.  We continue to pray for your health and safety.

Blessings,

Dear Lake Louise Christian Community Camps, Retreats and Cottager Families,

Yesterday, the Michigan State Legislature extended the Michigan Emergency Declaration through April 30, 2020.  This declaration includes approximately 30 of the Executive Orders made by our Governor, including the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order.  Therefore, the Lake Louise office will remain closed at least until May 1, 2020.

Many of you have questions about our summer programming. It is our hope that all summer programs run as scheduled this summer. Preparations are being made to deliver a full summer experience. The safety of our campers, staff, and participants is always our top priority. Any decision about the summer 2020 season—to hold camp as scheduled, modify our offerings in some way, or cancel camp—will be made by the LLCC leadership team in collaboration with our Board of Trustees based on recommendations and requirements from the state and federal government, the CDC, the American Camp Association, our local Health Department, and other trusted advisors in the camping industry.

We know how much you care about camp. We share your sentiment and that is why we are taking the time needed to determine the best path forward for the 2020 season. While it is difficult to know at this point, we estimate making a final decision in the early part of May. If we need to cancel camp, we will work with families to transfer their tuition balance to the 2021 summer season, or issue a refund. This is a difficult time financially for many families; please reach out to us if there is something we can do to ease your burden.

Blessings!

Lake Louise Christian Community Camps, Retreats and Cottager Families,

We recognize the ongoing concerns in our community, state and country about the continued spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).  We want to inform our friends, families and guests that we are closely monitoring new developments and following the guidance of health officials to protect our campers, participants, cottagers and staff.

Lake Louise is taking the steps necessary to ensure our camp and retreat facilities are ready and prepared to implement health and safety recommendations as required.  We want to assure you that we are seeking and following guidance from our local health authorities and regulatory entities as we make decisions here at Lake Louise and are ready and prepared to implement all recommendations as necessary.  The staff at Lake Louise is reviewing our existing plans and procedures for communicable diseases and are responding accordingly based on recommendation from health officials. Our planning for COVID-19 is focused on specific steps necessary to maintain a safe environment for campers, participants and staff.

Currently, we have suspended all spring programs through April 30th.  We will be working closely with the leaders of scheduled retreat programs beyond that date on a group by group basis to determine the best course forward.

We anticipate running an exciting and successful 2020 summer camp season as scheduled.  We are accepting summer camp registrations online through our website and through the mail.

Please check our website often as we will keep you updated with communications and new details as they emerge.  The website will always contain the most up-to-date information.  You can expect to receive a direct communication like this with any significant changes to our programs or our policies.

We are making changes as needed in response to the virus to safeguard everyone at camp and the community at large.  We appreciate that everyone will have different comfort levels and unique circumstances to consider in moving forward.  We will work with each of you and support your family’s decisions regarding your summer camp plans

Blessings,

Jim Willford
