Central Bay District Youth Mission During Boyne Country Service Project

Central Bay District Youth set up packing stations in the Lake Louise Christian Community Dining Hall.
On Wednesday, July 26th 2023, Lake Louise Christian Community welcomed the Midwest Mission in their doors. The Central Bay District Youth, who are participating with the Lake Louise Boyne Country Service Project, spent their day packing rice meals that could end up feeding those in need all around the world.
The Midwest Mission has a strong Methodist background as it was started by Elder, Jack Travelstead, in the year 2000. For the last 23 years, Midwest Mission has been serving countries likes the United States, Ukraine, Turkey, Syria, Haiti, Guatemala and many more third and second world counties. Their mission is as follows: “Bringing the hearts and hands of God’s people together to transform resources into humanitarian relief”. While they offer over 10 Mission Kits and Projects to complete, the Central Bay District Youth focused on Rice Meals. Rice Meals are assembled at a location of your choice with the proper ingredients purchased from Midwest Mission. At a cost of only 34 cents per meal, you can feed a family for only $1.
Gene Turner, the Mission in Motion Manager on site at Lake Louise during the mission day, has been working for the organization since 2022. He oversees the booking of events, inventory of project materials, and participates in offsite packing events, like the one hosted at Lake Louise. He has set a high goal for the Boyne Country Service Project to pack 2,100 bags. With each bag feeding six people, Lake Louise and the Central Bay District Youth will have a direct impact in feeding just about 12,600 people in one day.
When speaking with Jennifer Lane, the coordinator of the project from Central Bay District Youth, she stated “this is a passion project for our youth. They wanted this to be a part of their week long mission trip when coming for the Boyne Country Service Project”. She continued, “this is something tangible, a real difference they can see. They love being able to track where these rice packs end up around the world”. When the youth we’re asked why they thought Midwest Mission was important, they agreed that “it’s important to help give back to those who need it”, one of the older youth added, “we’ve worked with them [Midwest Mission] before. We know it’s a trustworthy organization and we love making a difference around the world”.

Packaging happens as an assembly line.

Teens measured each additive for the proper weight and nutrition.
